Shropshire Union Canal (Edstaston Branch) Boodles Bridge

Boodles Bridge is a canal bridge located on the Edstaston Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal, built around 1800 to 1806. It is part of the Prees branch designed by engineers William Jessop and Thomas Telford for the Ellesmere Canal. The bridge is constructed of red brick with some minor patches of engineering brick and features a coped stone parapet. It has a single elliptical arch that includes keybricks, a string course, a parapet, and corner piers. The Prees Branch was initially planned to extend to Prees Higher Heath but was only completed as far as Quina Brook near Edstaston by 1806, where it was decided to terminate the project. The Ellesmere Canal Company merged with the Chester Canal Company in 1813 and became part of the Shropshire Union in 1846.
