Description
Allman's Bridge is a canal lift bridge located on the Edstaston Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal in Whixall, Shropshire. It was probably built between 1800 and 1806 and features a wooden bascule design that operates using a counterweight and chain system. The Prees branch was initially intended to extend to Prees Higher Heath but was only completed as far as Quina Brook by 1806, where it was decided to terminate the project. The Ellesmere Canal Company merged with the Chester Canal Company in 1813 and became part of the Shropshire Union Canal in 1846.
