Description

White Lodge is a cottage, likely dating from the 16th or 17th century, with later additions and alterations. The exterior is roughcast, hiding a timber frame, and sits on a rendered plinth. The roof is corrugated iron with deep boarded eaves, replacing what was originally thatch. The cottage appears to be of two framed bays, with a C19 casement window directly below the eaves on the right and a small larder window below it. A C20 fixed-light window is to the left. A roughly central boarded door is sheltered by a C20 gabled wooden porch. A prominent integral red brick stack is located at the rear on the left. The roof features projecting single-purlin and wall-plate ends. While the interior was not accessible during resurvey in February 1986, it is likely to be of interest. A two-storey early 20th-century addition set back to the right, and C20 brick lean-tos to the rear, are not considered to be of special architectural interest.
