Description

The cottage at Blakemoorgate, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, is constructed of stone rubble with some limewash and features a plain tile roof with gabled ends. It has a stone rubble stack that projects at the left end, topped with a short red brick chimney.

The cottage has a small two-room layout, with the entrance located to the right of the center. The larger room on the left is heated by a gable-end fireplace, while the unheated room on the right has a plank door and a three-light casement window to the left, both set in segmental brick arch openings. On the first floor, there are two horizontally sliding sash windows with glazing bars. A window at the rear on the right has been boarded over.

Inside, the cottage features exposed beams and pole joists. The left room includes a fireplace with a simple moulded chimneypiece that has a shelf supported by brackets and a range. There is a winder stair leading to the upper chambers.

Adjacent to the cottage is an underground root store, also dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. This structure is made of stone rubble, has a rectangular plan, and is partly underground, covered with earth except for the entrance. The doorway features a stone lintel, and the interior is barrel-vaulted.
