Description

The Gamehouse or ash-house, located approximately 25 meters north-east of Shelvock Farmhouse, is a building likely dating from the mid to late 17th century. It is constructed from squared and dressed sandstone blocks set on a chamfered plinth, topped with a polygonal slate roof and an iron weathervane. The building has a polygonal plan and is a single storey high, featuring a moulded eaves cornice.

The entrance is on the south-west side, accessed through a plank door fitted with pointed strap hinges and a large stone lintel. On the north-east side, there is a single tall window with a similar lintel, which may have originally been a doorway. The building also has blocked vent holes. Inside, there is a light spar across the diameter at wall-plate level, which may have been used for hanging game. The exact purpose of this small building remains a topic of speculation. Shelvock Farmhouse is not included in this listing.
