Description
Whiston Hall Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It is timber-framed on a brick and stone base, featuring red brick and plastered infill, and roughly shaped stone quoins. The building has plain tiled roofs and is L-shaped, standing two storeys high. The north-south range consists of 2½ structural bays with small square panelling, while the cross wing likely has three bays with vertical panelling. The timber framing on the left return front has largely been replaced with brick, and there are V-shaped struts above the collar to the gable. The windows are 1:2 in proportion, with 20th-century casements that possibly maintain the proportions of the original windows. There is a 20th-century doorway located in the angle between the north-south range and the cross wing, along with 20th-century integral brick stacks, including a gablet at the left-hand end of the north-south range and indications of another to the right. A door with a flat Perpendicular arch is located at the rear. The house is not marked on the Provisional Edition of the Ordnance Survey Map from 1901, revised in 1938, but the regularity of the roof lines and the pointing of the brickwork suggest that it may have been re-erected at this site after being moved from another location.
