Description

The Davies Memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 28 metres to the north-west of the north porch of the Church of St George. It dates from the mid-19th century and is constructed from sandstone ashlar. The tomb features a chamfered plinth and raised panels with incised borders. Notably, it has an unusual corner treatment with shaped reeded balusters, including a full baluster at the corner and engaged quadrant balusters on each side. The frieze is decorated with a chevron pattern, and the top is chamfered. This memorial commemorates Ann Davies, who died in 1845, and represents a distinctive type of memorial that is characteristic of the area, similar to several other memorials found in the churchyard.
