Description
The Davies memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 1.2 meters north of the nave of the Church of St. Mary in Hordley. It dates from around 1817 and is made of sandstone, which slightly tapers at the ends. The tomb features a moulded capping and plinth that is supported on ball feet. The top ledger is slightly chamfered and has a double-chamfered projection. There are plain moulded inscription panels on the north side, which commemorate Richard Davies of Wycherley, who died in 1817, and his wife, Jane, who died in 1818. The west side of the tomb commemorates their son, Richard, who died in 1821. The memorial formerly stood within a railed enclosure, of which the stone base still survives.
