Description
These stables, built in the 18th century, are located approximately 5 meters south of Plowsters in Ashford Carbonell. Constructed from brick and painted brick, with a weatherboarded timber frame and a corrugated-iron sheet roof, the building has a three-bay plan and stands two storeys high.
The front features one shuttered framed opening on either side of a central stable door at ground level. Above this, there is a plain boarded loft door set into the partly weatherboarded first floor. The right gable has a plain boarded door to the loft, also set in a weatherboarded gable. At the rear, there is a reset 17th-century ovolo-moulded two-light mullioned window.
Inside, the stables have two raking-strut trusses and a single trenched purlin roof. The building is included for its group value with Plowsters.
