Description
The stable block located to the south-east of Ashford Court is a late 18th-century structure that originally served as stables and a coach-house, and is now used solely as stables. It is built of brick and features a hipped slate roof, designed in an H-plan layout.
The exterior includes a two-storey former coach-house range with single-storey stable wings. The coach-house front has a four-window arrangement of two-light casements with segmental arches. The central pair of windows is set in an advanced bay that has a gable above it. There are two carriage entrances in this advanced bay, each featuring elliptical brick arches supported by ashlar springer stones. Flanking doorways are set in segmental arched openings; to the left, there is a casement above a bricked-up opening, and to the right, a casement above a boarded door. The rear side has two first-floor casements and three two-light casements at ground level, all with segmental arches. The stable wing fronts have two two-light casements and plain boarded doors on the inner return sides, also with segmental arches. The sides feature single casements, while the rear has two-light casements on the inner return sides.
Inside, the stable wings retain complete stalls.
