Description

The Salwey Arms Public House, which includes a post office box, is a public house built in the late 18th century with 19th-century extensions. It is constructed of brick and features a slate roof with projecting brick end stacks, along with rear and side extensions.

The exterior is three storeys high and has a three-window range consisting of 8/8 sash windows, with 4/8 sashes on the second floor and two 8/8 sashes flanking a central doorway on the ground floor. All windows have segmental brick arches and stone sills. The doorway is adorned with plain pilasters and a thin re-entrant pedimental hood, and it features a six-panel door topped with a half-round fanlight that has radial and bats-wing glazing bars. To the right, there is a 19th-century rear extension, which is a two-storey brick structure with a slate roof, containing five 6/6 sash windows under brick segmental arches. The doorway here imitates the style of the main entrance. This extension continues as a service and stable range, which has stable doors on the south side. There are 20th-century extensions that obscure the left side and rear of the main building.

Inside, there is a late 18th-century central staircase, and a 19th-century post office wall box is located in the brick wall.
