Description
This building is a barn and cow shed located approximately 40 metres to the north-east of Lower Down Farmhouse. It dates from the late 17th century and the 19th century. The structure features a weatherboarded timber frame with a coursed limestone rubble plinth and a slate roof. The framing consists of square panels and transverse partition walls with tension braces, and it has eight framed bays across two storeys. On the north side, there are six boarded doors on the left and four boarded doors on the ground floor, along with a loft door in the right-hand gable end. Inside, there is a partially inserted 19th-century floor, and the roof has double purlins with queen post and queen strut trusses.
