Description
No. 28 Brockton is a cottage that likely dates back to the 14th century, with a 17th-century addition on the right and a complete refacing in the 19th century. The building features a timber frame, with later painted limestone rubble for partial rebuilding and additions, a rendered end wall, and a thatched roof. The left side has one framed bay and is one storey high, while the right side is 1½ storeys.
On the right, there is an eaves dormer with a jettied gable supported by brackets, above a four-light casement window. A brick chimney stack is located behind the ridge, slightly off-centre to the left. The right-hand block has two small two-light casements flanking a central boarded door, while the slightly set-back left-hand block features a two-light casement on the right and a boarded door on the left. There is a 20th-century three-light casement in the left-hand end, with a small blocked attic window above it.
Inside, the left-hand block contains two full cruck trusses and a large fireplace, while the right-hand block has a staircase with a newel post that likely dates from the 17th century.
