Description
This building is a late 17th century to early 18th century farm range located 20 meters east of Highgate Farmhouse. It includes a three-bay barn and a two-bay two-storey cowhouse, both constructed with timber framing in square panels that are three panels high over a low rubble plinth. The barn features tapered bay posts and has been later covered with weatherboarding. The end trusses of the barn include queen struts, collars, and raking braces, while the partition trusses have long raking braces. Much of the timber has been renewed or reused, and there are tall double doors leading to the threshing bay.
The two-storey cowhouse, also from the late 17th century to early 18th century, has square-panel framing similar to the barn, with a rubble gable end and replaced trusses. It is also weatherboarded and has boarded doors and loft openings. The interior is divided into stalls and loose boxes with a transverse feeding passage, featuring plank-lined stall partitions, mangers, and racks. The loft is supported by rough pole joists.
Additionally, there is a 19th-century stable or trap house made of rubble stone with boarded doors, although the interior has not been inspected.
