Description
This building is a barn and cowhouse located approximately 12 meters northeast of Rendle's Down Farmhouse. It dates from the 17th century and is constructed of coursed slatestone rubble and cob, topped with a gabled corrugated iron roof. There is a 20th-century concrete block outshut at the center of the front. The barn features a timber lintel above 19th-century plank double doors. To the left, the cowhouse has a loft opening above a timber lintel over a 19th-century plank door, with a window to the left and a blocked doorway with splayed jambs to the right. Inside, the shippon has 19th-century A-frame trusses, while the barn boasts a 17th-century five-bay A-frame roof, with collars tenoned into the principal rafters and trenched purlins, although some purlins and collars have been removed.
