Description

The Weare Giffard War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1921, with later additions for the Second World War. It is made of granite and is located beside the gateway to the churchyard, near the Church of the Holy Trinity, which is a Grade I listed building, and not far from the Humphreys monument, which is Grade II listed.

The memorial features a wheel-head cross with a rough-hewn tapering shaft, set on a square tapering pedestal that sits atop a substantial stone platform. It is carved from pale grey granite. The main inscription is in leaded lettering and reads on the south face: "FOR KING AND COUNTRY 1914 – 1918 1939 – 1945" followed by one name. The west face lists six names, and the east face lists five names.
