8/29 Cowhouse approx. - 60m south of Lower Aldress Farmhouse

Cowhouse. Late C17 with later alterations. Weatherboarded timber frame with corrugated iron cladding on west side; stone slate roof. 2 levels; 4 eaves hatches and 5 doors on east side. Interior: vertical posts and light framing including re-used jowled posts; weatherboarded partitions with long straight tension braces, continuous loft. Double-purlin roof in 4 bays with mixture of Queen-strut trusses and raking struts from tie beams supporting principal rafters. Included for group value. Lower Aldress Farmhouse is not included in this list.
