Description
The archway in the wall, located approximately 40 meters east of The Nursery, is a Grade II listed structure likely built in the mid-19th century, incorporating some masonry from the 13th century. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a wide pointed chamfered arch with a hoodmould. The archway is flanked by four orders of shafts, each with plain moulded capitals and plinths on either side. The west face of the archway shows more weathering, while the carving on the east face appears crisper and may have been imitated during the archway's re-erection in the mid-19th century. The original source of the archway remains unknown. The Nursery is not included in this listing.
