Description
This is a barn located approximately 5 metres north-west of Alderton Hall Farmhouse, dating from the early 18th century and incorporating earlier materials. It features a timber frame that is weatherboarded and clad in corrugated iron, with some red brick nogging on a dressed yellow and grey sandstone plinth, topped by a corrugated iron roof. The barn has tall rectangular panels with long tension braces, some of which are curved, and consists of three framed bays. There are a pair of large boarded doors positioned centrally and opposed to each other. Inside, the structure includes tie beam trusses with raking struts, as well as collar and tie-beam end trusses with queen struts. It has single purlins supported by wind braces, and each bay division contains a central post with long straight tension braces. The frame incorporates a significant amount of reused earlier timber. This barn is included for its group value.
