Description
This barn, located immediately to the south-west of Rowley Farmhouse, dates from the late 17th century and has undergone significant later alterations. It features a weatherboarded and corrugated-iron clad timber frame set on a rubblestone plinth, topped with a corrugated iron roof. The structure has two levels and includes scattered eaves hatches and stable doors, along with a late 18th or 19th century gabled addition in the center that was formerly used as stables. Inside, the framing is visible, with two much renewed rectangular panels extending from the cill to the wall-plate. The roof is a single-purlin design spanning eight bays, incorporating a mix of Queen-strut trusses and raking struts from tie beams that support the principal rafters, with lofts on both the left and right sides. This barn is included for its group value.
