Description

Church Bank is an early 17th-century cottage located in Rowley, Wor then, with later additions and alterations. The construction is timber framed with wattle and daub and painted brick infill, now largely rendered, set upon an uncoursed limestone rubble plinth. The roof is corrugated iron. The cottage originally had a two-cell plan with an integral end stack. It is one storey high with an attic.

The timber framing consists of two square panels, one still displaying wattle and daub infill to the back wall, from the cill to the wall-plate. The ground floor has two 19th-century casement windows, one small with leaded lights, and a 20th-century flat-roofed eaves dormer on the right side. A boarded door is situated on the far right. A brick end stack is integrated on the right side of the building.

Inspection of the interior was not possible during a resurvey in November 1985, but it is said to retain the timber frame substantially intact and of likely interest. A prominent late 20th-century two-storey addition to the left and a mid-20th-century flat-roofed addition to the right are considered to be of no particular architectural interest.
