Description

This is a terrace of four houses located at 16-22 Salop Road, built in 1827 and 1828, now divided into flats and offices. The buildings are constructed of red brick with a slate roof, featuring four axial ridge stacks that were rebuilt in late 19th century yellow brick. They stand three storeys tall and have a dentilled wooden eaves cornice that extends around the pediments. Each pair of houses has a four-window front, with the central bays projecting to form pedimented breaks. The windows are glazing bar sashes with plain stone lintels on the first and second floors, except for the outer bay of No. 22, which has a plate-glass sash and a late 20th century top-hung casement. Each inner and outer bay has prominent early 20th century bay windows on the ground floor, with No. 22's bay window remodelled in the late 20th century. Nos. 16 and 16a, to the left, feature a late 20th century paired pedimented doorcase, while No. 18 retains its original low-pedimented doorcase with a six-panel door and rectangular overlight. No. 20 has a similar entrance, but No. 22's doorcase has been remodelled in the late 20th century with a half-glazed door. To the right of No. 22, there is a wide segmental-headed passageway with glazing bar sashes above on each floor. Datestones indicating the years 1827 and 1828 are located on the pediments.
