Description

This is a terrace of four houses located on the south side of Upper Brook Street in Oswestry. The houses date from the early 19th century, with later additions and alterations. They are constructed of red brick with a slate roof, featuring a central brick ridge stack and internal end stacks to the left and right.

The terrace is three stories high and has a moulded wooden eaves cornice. The front facade has a seven-window arrangement, with glazing bar sash windows in alternating wide, segmental-headed openings and narrow, round-headed openings (the wide windows are tripartite). The tympana above the segmental-headed windows are ornamented with stucco fan-like details. The windows on the top floor are smaller in size and have gauged heads. The ground floor features a pair of pilastered doorcases, each with a single pediment, panelled reveals, six-panel doors, and fanlights. These are alternated with tripartite windows matching those on the first floor. A central round-arched passageway is distinguished by a decorated projecting keystone and impost details. A bay window was added in the early 20th century to the ground floor of number 18.
