Description
48 and 50 Salop Road are a pair of houses, now divided into flats, built in 1841, as indicated by a datestone, with later additions and alterations. The buildings are constructed of red brick and feature a hipped slate roof with axial stacks on the left and right slopes. They rise to three storeys and have a moulded wooden eaves cornice and a first-floor cill band that extends around the left and right sides. The front has four windows, with the central windows set in a projecting pedimented break that displays the 1841 datestone. The windows are glazing bar sashes with plain stone lintels, and there are late 19th-century canted bay windows on the lower left and right. The central entrance features twin doorways with plain pilastered wood doorcases; the left one retains a pedimented hood. Each entrance has a six-panel door with panelled reveals and rectangular overlights. The style of these houses is closely comparable to Nos. 16 to 22 Salop Road, which were built in 1827-1828. They are included for their group value.
