Description
49 and 49A High Street is a former coach house to No. 51 High Street, which has been converted into two shops. It dates back to the 17th century and was restored in the late 20th century. The building features a timber frame with unpainted brick and painted rendered infill panels, topped with a plain-tile roof that has an integral brick gable-end stack.
The rectangular structure is two storeys high and runs parallel to the street, with a projecting single-storey and attic rear wing for No. 49. The street front showcases square-panelled timber framing, with four panels high. To the left, there is a 19th-century sash window, and to the right, two 20th-century casement windows. The ground floor center has a pair of 20th-century doors flanked by 20th-century shop windows. There are remnants of framed mullioned windows preserved in the infill panel to the right. The left-hand gable end is rendered and partially covered by a single-storey gabled wing, which is now No. 47 High Street and is not included in this listing. The rear wing for No. 49 is also a projecting painted brick structure. The interior has not been inspected.
