Description
Nos. 53 and 53A on Borough High Street is a shop and house built in the early 18th century, with a front added in the mid-19th century and some alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of red-brown brick. Although the roof is hidden behind a parapet, it seems to be lower at the front, with a gable still visible at the rear. There is a stack located at the rear right. The structure has three storeys and consists of one bay. The ground floor features a 20th-century shop front and fascia. On the first floor, there is a tripartite window set in a stuccoed architrave with a small central pediment. The second-storey tripartite window is also in a stuccoed architrave, with its feet resting on a plain brick storey band. The interior has not been inspected. No. 53 is part of a group with No. 55.
