Description
The retaining wall and gate pier adjoining Welsh Lodge to the south-west were built around 1832. They are made of coursed Alberbury breccia rubble with red sandstone coping. The structure has an irregular U-shape and varies in height from approximately 2 metres to 0.5 metres, designed in the Gothic Revival style. The coping is chamfered and ramps up to the east. At the east end, there is a gate pier made of red sandstone, which has a square section and features trefoil-headed panelled sides and a top with gables on each face. The original gate has been replaced by a grid. This structure is included for its group value.
