Description
The York Tomb, located approximately 1 metre to the northwest of the tower of the Church of St. Mary, is a chest tomb dating from around 1830. It is constructed of ashlar and has a square plan. The tomb features a moulded base, a cornice, and a faceted top, with incised borders on the east and west sides. The west side is inscribed with a dedication to Rachel York, wife of Benjamin York of the Manor, who passed away on June 22nd, 1830, at the age of 57. The east side commemorates Benjamin York of Sheriffhales Manor, who died on May 31st, 1841, in his 68th year.
