Description
This barn, located approximately 8 metres to the west of numbers 1 and 2 at Top Farmhouse, dates from around 1700 and has some 19th-century alterations. It features a weatherboarded timber frame resting on a sandstone rubble plinth, with one end wall partially rebuilt in red brick and a corrugated iron roof. The structure consists of five framed bays, with widely spaced studs and long straight tension braces. There are scattered boarded doors and loft doors. Inside, the barn has tie-beam roof trusses with raking struts, collar and tie-beam trusses with queen-struts, and pairs of purlins with wind braces. Some of the timbers appear to be reused. This barn is part of a small farmstead group that includes Top Farmhouse, contributing to its group value.
