Description
This is a barn dating from around 1700, with later alterations from the 18th century. It has a weatherboarded timber frame set on a plinth of red sandstone rubble, and the southeast end wall has been rebuilt in red brick. The roof is covered with plain tiles and the barn consists of six bays. On the southwest front, there are three boarded loft doors and three lower boarded doors. The left-hand gable end features an exposed truss, while the right-hand gable end has two tiers of lozenge-shaped honeycomb vents. Adjoining the barn to the southeast is a 19th-century cast-iron pump and a grey sandstone trough. Inside the barn, there are collar and tie-beam trusses with queen struts, and pairs of purlins with wind braces on the top pair. This barn is part of a complete farmstead group that also includes New Hall Farmhouse, which adds to its group value.
