Description

A farmhouse dating from the late 16th or early 17th century, it was remodelled in the mid-18th century and early 19th century, with later additions and alterations. The original timber-framed house, now largely with plaster infill, was cased in brick and converted into a lobby-entry arrangement in the mid-18th century. A long range was added to the rear in the early 19th century, and part of this was demolished with a gable rebuilt around 1960. The house is two storeys with a gable-lit attic, featuring a floor band to the front and dentilled eaves cornices. The roof is covered with machine tiles. The front facade is slightly asymmetrical with three bays, featuring 16-pane glazing bar sashes; a central entrance is approached by a short flight of steps, with a late 20th-century pedimented doorcase, an early 19th-century six-panel door, and a rectangular overlight. An axial ridge stack is positioned directly above the entrance. Exposed timber framing is visible on the right gable end, displaying close studding with middle rails and long curved tension braces, with a jetty to the first floor supported on richly carved corner brackets. The interior, which has not been inspected, is noted to contain exposed timber framing (square panels) in a ground-floor room and 17th-century oak panelling in a room to the left.
