Description

Top Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been divided into two residences. It dates from the late 17th century and has undergone alterations and additions in the late 19th century. The structure is timber framed with plastered infill, and it has been partly rendered and partly rebuilt in painted brick and stone. The roof is covered with banded plain tiles and has an L-shape plan, featuring a flush gabled cross wing to the right that projects at the rear.

The framing consists of square panels, with three panels extending from the sole plate to the wall plate. The building has one storey and an attic over a semi-basement on the left side. There is a large brick ridge stack that is off-centre to the right at the junction with the cross wing, along with a 19th-century brick ridge stack that is off-centre to the left, and an integral brick lateral stack to the right of the cross wing.

The house features two gabled eaves dormers, each with two-light wooden casements. The front has three windows, with 20th-century two and three-light wooden casements. There is a boarded door located between the first and second windows from the right, which has a 20th-century bracketed porch, and a half-glazed door to the left that also has a circa 1900 bracketed porch. At the rear, there is a 19th-century gabled brick wing with an integral brick end stack. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
