Description

The Cop is a farmhouse that has been divided into two homes. It dates from the mid-17th century and has undergone alterations in the late 19th century and additions in the 20th century. The building features a timber frame set on coursed Alberbury breccia with a red brick plinth and red brick nogging. Parts of it have been rebuilt, and the eaves have been raised in red brick, all topped with slate roofs.

The structure is L-shaped, comprising two framed bays and a gabled cross-wing with one and a half framed bays. It has one storey and an attic on one side and two storeys on the other. There is a brick stack just off the ridge to the west at the junction of the hall range and cross-wing, along with a 19th-century external lateral brick stack to the east. The south side features a small gabled eaves dormer with a two-light wooden casement and a larger gabled eaves dormer to the west, also with a two-light wooden casement.

On the east front, there is a two-light wooden casement in the gable to the left and a two-light wooden first-floor casement to the right. The ground floor has a 20th-century two-light wooden casement and a one-light wooden casement to the left, with another two-light wooden casement to the right. The entrance is roughly central. A 20th-century flat-roofed one-storey brick addition to the right has a three-light casement and a half-glazed door, projecting at right angles to the right with a garage. The gable to the left displays an exposed collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts and V-struts.

The south front has two windows, and there are additional 20th-century brick additions and another entrance at the rear. The interior has not been inspected, but chamfered beams and joists have been noted.
