Description

Nox House is an early 19th-century former alehouse and attached stables, with later alterations. It may incorporate elements of an earlier house. The building is constructed of red brick with a slate roof and end stacks. The three-storey front has a dentilated eaves cornice and a three-window facade. It features four-light casement windows of the late 19th century, with segmental heads to those on the ground and first floors. A central entrance has a six-panel door with a rectangular overlight and a flat hood supported by wooden posts.

Attached to the right is a stable of light timber framing with red brick infill and a slate roof. This stable has a door to the eaves and a wide entrance to the ground floor. The alehouse, formerly known as 'The Star and Ball', served as the regular meeting place for the Ford manor court between 1674 and 1811. A minor amendment was made to this listing on 28 November 2017.
