PONTESBURY C.P. EDGE Edgegrove

GV II

Farmhouse. Probably partly late C15 or early C16, re-modelled in C17 and again c.1800 with later additions and alterations. Roughcast concealing timber frame and red brick, plain tile roofs and raised verges. The earliest part is probably the 2-bay cross-wing reputed to be of close-studded construction at the west end under a separate and lower roof; an L-shaped range with central stack was then added to the east and finally, c.1800, the eaves of this-part were raised and a further bay built to the north-east, creating the basic T-plan of the present house. East front: 3 storeys, dentilled eaves cornice; 3 bays, windows all glazing bar sashes with cambered heads, 16-paned to ground and first floors and painted in imitation to top left and right; central entrance, half-glazed door under paired Tuscan porch with moulded entablature; integral end stacks. Other notable external features include the prominent stack in the roof slope of the range behind and the 2 tall external stacks in the west wall of the cross-wing; also a C17 nail-studded door with long strap hinges under the full-height gabled entrance porch on the north side.
