Description

Edgegrove is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 15th century or early 16th century, with remodels in the 17th century and around 1800, along with later additions and alterations. The building is roughcast, hiding a timber frame and red brick, topped with plain tile roofs and raised verges. The oldest part is likely the two-bay cross-wing at the west end, which is believed to be of close-studded construction and has a separate, lower roof. An L-shaped range with a central stack was added to the east, and around 1800, the eaves of this section were raised, and an additional bay was built to the northeast, forming the basic T-plan of the current house.

The east front features three storeys with a dentilled eaves cornice and three bays. The windows are all glazing bar sashes with cambered heads, with 16 panes on the ground and first floors, and painted to imitate this style on the top left and right. The central entrance has a half-glazed door beneath a paired Tuscan porch with a moulded entablature, and there are integral end stacks. Notable external features include a prominent stack in the roof slope of the range behind and two tall external stacks in the west wall of the cross-wing. There is also a 17th-century nail-studded door with long strap hinges beneath the full-height gabled entrance porch on the north side.
