Description
Blaenau Cottage, located about 20 yards south of Blaenau Farmhouse, is a cottage that likely dates from the 17th century or early 18th century. It is constructed of rubble with a corrugated iron roof and features a brick end stack at the rear. The cottage has a two-cell plan and consists of one storey and an attic, with two bays.
On the ground floor, there are two 19th-century casement windows, and one window is located in the gable above. The entrance is accessed through a heavy pegged door frame, with a mid-19th century ledged door beneath a dripstone on the right-hand side. To the right of the entrance, there is a corrugated roofed extension.
Inside, there is a plank and muntin screen with a segmental chamfered door head that divides the ground floor into two rooms. A 19th-century bread oven is situated to the right of the door, which partly obscures a large 17th-century fireplace. The staircase was likely positioned to the left of the fireplace. The roof features one truss with three purlins on each slope, and the upper floor has been removed.
