Description

Middle Poole is a cottage that likely dates back to the early 18th century and was enlarged in the mid to late 19th century. The building is rendered over cob or stone and features a half-hipped thatched roof, probably made from wheat straw. The 19th-century addition is constructed from uncoursed stone rubble with red brick dressings around the openings and has a gable-ended roof covered with Welsh slate, which is now topped with a 20th-century bitumen covering. A 19th-century brick chimney stack is present.

The original 18th-century section has a two-room plan facing south and includes a truncated integral end stack on the left side. The original entrances are not known. The 19th-century addition to the left may consist of one or two rooms and has its own integral end stack. The cottage is two storeys high.

On the exterior, the right-hand part of the 18th-century section features late 20th-century two-light metal casements, with two on the first floor and one on the ground floor to the left. The left-hand part also has 20th-century two-light metal casements in older openings, with brick segmental-arched heads, including two on the first floor and one on the ground floor to the left. There is a 20th-century half-glazed door to the right, also with a brick segmental-arched head. The interior has not been inspected, but there is a bulge of a bread oven noted at the rear of the 18th-century stack, which is now located in the 19th-century entrance passage.
