Description

Hill Side is a cottage that likely dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with alterations and expansions made in the mid to late 19th century, along with a minor addition in the early 20th century. The building is rendered, probably over cob and stone rubble, and features a gable-ended wheatstraw thatched roof, with a higher gable-ended Welsh-slate roof on the addition. There is a rendered stone end stack on the right with a red brick top stage, and a brick axial stack on the left. The late 19th-century porch is made of painted brick and has a slate roof, while the early 20th-century addition is constructed of red brick with a monopitch slate roof.

The original plan, dating to around 1700, consists of a two-room central-entrance layout with external end stacks, facing south. In the mid to late 19th century, a one-room plan block was added to the left-hand end, along with the late 19th-century front porch. The cottage is two storeys high, and there is an early 20th-century one-storey outbuilding that adjoins at right angles to the left.

The exterior is roughly symmetrical with a three-window front featuring mid to late 19th-century six-pane sashes. The doorway is located between the first and second windows from the right and contains a late 19th-century or early 20th-century half-glazed door. The porch has a gabled roof with a keyed round archway and plain barge boards. The interior has not been inspected.
