Description

ROBOROUGH ROBOROUGH SS 57 17 19/186 Hill Side - GV II

Cottage. Probably late C17 or early C18, altered and enlarged in the mid to late C19. Minor early C20 addition. Rendered, probably over cob and stone rubble. Gable-ended wheatstraw thatched roof with higher gable-ended Welsh-slate roof to addition. Rendered stone end stack to right with red brick top stage and brick axial stack to left. Late C19 painted brick porch with slate roof and C20 red brick addition with monopitch slate roof. Plan and development: Circa 1700 two-room central-entrance plan with external end stacks, facing south. Altered and one-room plan block added to the left-hand end in the mid to late C19. Late C19 front porch. Two storeys. Early C20 one-storey outbuilding adjoining at right angles to left. Exterior: Roughly symmetrical 3-window front; mid to late C19 six-pane sashes. Doorway between first and second windows from right with late C19 or early C20 half- glazed door, and late C19 gabled porch with keyed round archway and plain barge boards. Interior not inspected.
