Description

No 3, Town Tenement is a cottage and adjoining former outbuilding located in Roborough. The cottage dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century, while the outbuilding is likely from the 19th century. The cottage is built of rendered stone and features a gable-ended wheatstraw thatched roof, with a rendered end stack that has a red brick shaft. The adjoining outbuilding, which was originally weatherboarded, is made of rendered stone and cob, topped with a gable-ended Welsh-slate roof.

The cottage has a one-room plan and faces east, with the ground falling to the left. It includes an external end stack on the right and an entrance to the left. The former outbuilding, now converted for domestic use in the late 20th century, has had its front wall rebuilt, a verandah added, and attic rooms inserted. The structure is one storey with an attic.

On the exterior, the cottage features a 19th-century two-light wooden casement window on the right, with a gable over the attic window. The doorway to the left has a 20th-century half-glazed door, framed by a 19th-century beaded wooden frame and a slate-roofed gabled porch with pierced barge boards. The former outbuilding includes a large 20th-century raking dormer, four ground-floor 20th-century two-light wooden casements, a central pair of 20th-century half-glazed doors, and a 20th-century glazed lean-to verandah. The cottage faces a courtyard, likely a former farmyard, opposite Nos. 1 and 2, Town Tenement.
