Description
Smallmarsh Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the early 18th century, with some minor additions from the mid-19th century. The building is rendered, probably over stone rubble and cob, and features a wheatstraw thatched roof that is hipped to the right. There is a rendered end stack on the left with chamfered offsets.
The cottage has a two-room plan typical of the 18th century, with a central entrance. The larger room is likely on the left and has an integral end stack. There is probably a 19th-century outshut at the right end. The building is two-storeys high.
The exterior has an asymmetrical front. On the first floor, there is a small 19th-century two-light wooden casement window to the right, and on the ground floor, there are two late 19th-century small-paned two-light wooden casement windows. The entrance is roughly central and features a 19th-century boarded door within a pegged wooden frame. The outshut to the right includes a 19th-century two-light wooden casement on the first floor and a one-light wooden casement on the ground floor.
The interior has not been inspected.
