Description
Rose Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the early 18th century, with a possible addition from the late 18th or early 19th century. The building is rendered, probably over cob, and features a wheatstraw thatched roof that is half-hipped to the left. It has brick stacks at the ends. The rear wing is made of rendered cob on a stone rubble plinth and has a gable-ended pantiled roof.
The cottage has a two-room central-entrance plan that faces north, with end stacks that are integral to the left and axial. The late 18th century wing projects at the rear of the left-hand end. The building is two storeys high, with a one-storey wing.
The exterior is symmetrical with a two-window front, featuring 19th century small-paned two-light wooden casements with stone cills. There is a roughly central doorway that has a late 19th century plank door framed with beaded wood. A central two-light wooden casement window from the 19th century is located on the first floor at the rear. The interior has not been inspected. This cottage is situated next to The Cottage on an island site at the south end of the village.
