Description
Forge Cottage is a house located approximately 50 meters south-south-west of The Old Maidenhead in Lyonshall. It dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century and has undergone extensive alterations during the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features square panelled timber-framing set on a sandstone rubble plinth, with 20th-century infill and some parts rendered. It has a Welsh slate roof and is designed in an L-plan, with a cross-wing aligned east to south-west that projects forward to the north-east front. There is a north-west lateral stack and an entrance located in the angle of the L on the north-east side. The house is two storeys high, with a 2-light 20th-century casement window on the upper floor and a similar 3-light window on the ground floor of the gable end of the cross-wing to the right. To the left of the lean-to 20th-century porch, which has a 20th-century ledged door, there is a 2-light window on each floor. The building is included for its group value.
