Description
Ivy House is a house located approximately 40 meters south-west of The Old Maidenhead in Lyonshall. It dates back to the 15th century, with remodeling in the 17th century and alterations in the late 19th century. The house features a timber frame with a sandstone plinth, and it has areas of refacing, wattle-and-daub, and brick infill. The roof is partly tiled and partly covered with stone slates.
The structure consists of two framed bays that include parts of the earlier house, aligned in a south-west to north-east direction, with a cross-wing at the south-west end connected by a through passage. There is an external lateral stack on the cross-wing and later lean-to additions. The house is single storey with an attic.
On the entrance front, the gable end of the cross-wing is to the left and has one three-light casement window. The ground floor features a pair of large four-pane windows, a lean-to on the left with one small four-pane window and a ledged door, and the main range to the right, which includes a central gabled dormer with a pair of four-pane casement windows. There is also a three-light casement window to the right of the ledged door on the ground floor.
Inside, there is a cruck truss towards the north-east gable end, which has cusped struts and is arch-braced to the collar, showing traces of smoke blackening. The 17th-century wing features chamfered ceiling beams.
