Description

The White House is a house with a core dating from the 17th century, which has been extensively remodeled during the late 18th century and early 19th century, with further alterations and additions made in the 20th century. The house features a timber-framed core with a sandstone rubble plinth and is faced with sandstone rubble and brick. The entrance front is completely rendered, and the building has tiled roofs. It consists of a range of three bays aligned northeast to southwest, with a cross-wing at the northeast end, which was extended to the southeast front during the late 1970s. There are two lateral stacks and one axial stack from the 19th century. The house is two storeys high.

On the southeast front, there are two 12-pane glazing bar sash windows on the first floor, a multi-paned window to the left of a half-glazed doorway, and a 16-pane glazing bar sash window to the left of a part-glazed door on the ground floor. A bow-fronted 20th-century extension extends to the right. The rear reveals square-panelled timber-framing of the cross-wing. Inside, the interior retains chamfered ceiling beams in the cross-wing, and there is a large fireplace with a chamfered surround, which is now partially blocked, in the main range. The building is included for its group value with The Farmhouse.
