Description

The Old Forge is a house dating back to the 17th century, with extensions added in the early 19th century and some alterations in the mid-20th century. It is a timber-frame structure with painted brick infill between the timbers, set on a rubble plinth, and has a slate roof. The west gable end features a substantial external stack of rubble with a brick shaft. The south-facing street front has two storeys and two windows. The ground floor has a three-light casement window on the left and a two-light casement on the right, both with plank shutters. The central entrance is sheltered by a segmental metal canopy supported on wrought iron brackets, and leads to a four-panel door with the upper two panels glazed. The timber framing is arranged in three square panels, with a further panel raised in the 19th century. Inside, the original roof trusses feature three struts to the collar.
