Description
Catley Cross is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with an addition from the late 17th or early 18th century, and further alterations. It features a timber-framed structure with painted brick infill and a sandstone plinth, along with later painted brick additions and tiled roofs. The building has an irregular, generally T-shaped plan, with the main range oriented north/south and facing east. The entrance is located left of center, with a lateral stack enclosed by a rear wing and an additional lateral stack to the north wing.
The farmhouse is two storeys high, with a cellar and an attic. The east front displays irregular fenestration, including two windows with cambered heads and 3-light casements to the right of a central mezzanine window. On the ground floor, there is a 2-light window to the left and a canted bay window to the right, which is topped by a gabled canopy supported on brackets, leading to a part-glazed door. There is another doorway to the right, also with a part-glazed door. The framing at the rear is largely exposed and remains substantially intact, typically featuring four square panels from sill to wall-plate, with diagonal bracing from the sill to the main post in the west gable of the rear wing.
