Description
The gatehouse to Old Court Farmhouse is a former structure, now used as a hop store, that dates back to possibly the 14th century and has undergone significant alterations. It is constructed of sandstone rubble with a tiled roof, and there are 19th-century brick modifications at the rear. The gatehouse is oriented north to south and features a central gateway, which is situated next to hop kilns to the north and a former Grammar School to the south.
The gateway is now two storeys high, with a central pointed archway that has two chamfered orders; the head of the arch is currently blocked. To the left of the archway, there is a minor pointed arch-headed doorway with one chamfered order, flanked by buttressing. The wall extends to the south, featuring two openings on the upper floor and one on the lower floor. The room to the left of the entrance is locally referred to as the jail.
