Description

The Cross comprises two adjoining tenements, dating to the 17th century, with No. 2 possibly being from the 18th century, and altered in the 20th century. They are timber-framed with painted brick infill, a sandstone plinth, and stacks with brick shafts. The roofs are tiled. The buildings are aligned east/west, facing south, with a left-hand entrance to No. 1 and a central entrance to No. 2. A lean-to addition is on the left of No. 2, and lean-to additions are at the rear of both properties. External gable end stacks are also present.

No. 1 is a single-storey building with an attic, and a lower roof line. It features a half-dormer with a pair of 2-light, C20 glazing bar casement windows. Two 2-light casement windows are located to the right of the ledged door. No. 2 is two storeys high, with two 2-light casement windows on the upper floor, and similar windows on the ground floor flanking a ledged door with a canopy. A large external stack features a diagonal plan shaft. The framing of No. 1 consists of three square panels from sill to wall-plate. The framing of No. 2 is irregular, with irregular four square panels.
