Description

Bentley's Farmhouse is a timber-framed farmhouse constructed in the late 17th or early 18th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. The farmhouse has brick infill, a sandstone plinth, a brick stack, and a tiled roof. The original plan comprised six framed bays aligned north to south, with the east front facing the road. A south gable end stack includes a bread oven, and the entrance is on the west front. A later brick addition is located on the north gable end.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has an irregular arrangement of windows. On the east front, there is a single 2-light casement window below the eaves to the left of the centre, a pair of similar windows to the left end bay, and a further window toward the centre, which may have been part of the original entrance. The ground floor of the northern brick extension contains a doorway with a ledged door and a window opening.

The timber framing is irregular and altered, but appears complete, with generally three square panels from sill to wall-plate, incorporating irregular angle bracing. This bracing may suggest the roof was raised, although there is no evidence of this visible in the gable end. The roof structure contains three struts to the collar and V-struts.
