Description
Dodd's Mill is a mill that has been converted into a house. It likely dates from the 17th century and was refaced with additions in 1788, with alterations made in the 20th century. The building features a timber frame with 20th-century infill, sandstone rubble refacing, and later additions. It has a tiled roof and brick stacks. The structure consists of two framed bays aligned east to west, facing south, with a stone and additional 20th-century extension to the east. The entrance is located on the south front in a later addition, with gable end stacks and a central axial stack. The building is a single storey with an attic, featuring three 20th-century gabled dormers with 3-light glazing bar casements. There are similar 3-light windows flanking a smaller window in the framed section, and a further 3-light window to the right of a gabled porch that has a 20th-century ledged door. The framing is fairly complete, with three panels visible from the sill to the wall-plate. A date inscribed in a stone set in the wall, which is now partly defaced, was recorded by the Royal Commission as 1788 in 1932.
